PROJECT INFORMATION (2)

The project began in May 1995 with two photographs made while driving through the area, returning from a trip to the Ardennes. One of the two images was made at Tyne Cot, not of the enormous cemetery there but rather of the view opposite looking at the ground where so many men died in 1917. This battlefield was now restored to farmland and it was this restoration process which I wanted to show in the work.

The bulk of the images were made with a 5"x7" camera although smaller cameras were employed for survey work and for some of the more difficult locations and weather conditions.
